Carbon monoxide is a highly dangerous gas that can sometimes be emitted from your appliances if they are faulty. Carbon monoxide is emitted when there isn’t enough oxygen reaching your appliance for it to be able to produce carbon dioxide.

One of the main reasons why it is so dangerous is because it has no smell or colour, and so can do undetected until it is too late. Sadly, there are several deaths each year due to CO2 poisoning, most of which could have been avoided.

You may experience the following symptoms if you are suffering from CO2 poisoning, including nausea, tiredness, dizziness and vomiting. Whilst these symptoms are also very common in other illnesses, CO2 poisoning is something that should be considered to ensure the problem can be rectified.

The easiest way to avoid suffering from CO2 poisoning is to install a CO2 alarm. These are small devices that can be installed in the home and will alert you if it detects dangerous levels of CO2 in the air. Much like how a smoke detector works.

A great way to prevent your appliances from emitting CO2 in the first place is to always ensure they are installed safely. Any gas appliance should always be installed by a qualified Gas Safe registered engineer. All our engineers are registered as we take Gas Safety very seriously. They will always be able to present their valid membership card if you were to ask to see it.

Another way to prevent CO2 leaking from your appliances is to have them serviced regularly. We recommend to our customers that they have their boilers serviced annually to give the boiler a thorough health check. A standard part of the service is to check that your boiler is operating safely which includes checking for irregular CO2 levels.

If you are interested in finding out more about CO2 in the home, or if you want to book a boiler service yourself, contact us today and we’ll be happy to help. Gas Safety is of the utmost importance, make sure you stay safe in your home!
