If you counted how many times per day you use hot water, you’d be amazed at the figure at the end of the day. We use hot water to wash our clothes and our bodies; to heat food, heat our homes, and clean the house too.
So, when you find yourself without hot water, it might feel like an emergency. You are advised to call a qualified heating engineer if the problem persists, but first, you can check on your hot water system to see what the problem might be.
Here are some simple checks to carry out when you don’t have hot water!
Take a long look at your boiler.
Your boiler is the key to understanding why you don’t have hot water. Hot water is created by running cold water through your boiler, which uses an energy source – usually gas, oil or electricity – to heat the water that feed the pipes.
If your boiler is not working properly, there will usually be an alert light – or no light at all, suggesting a power outage.
Test your energy supply in other parts of your home.
It could be that your electricity, gas or oil supply has been cut off, leaving your boiler out of service. Test your energy supply in other parts of the house to see if this is the case.
Run the taps for longer than usual.
It could be that, if you have been away, the taps just need to be run a little longer than usual for the boiler to warm up.
